Navigation Behavioral Consulting
Megan DeLeon, M.S, BCBA started Navigation Behavioral Consulting in the fall of 2009, with the intent of providing the latest behavior analysis autism services to families primarily in the Virginia Beach area. As an approved Tricare provider and Ohio Autism Scholarship Provider, Megan also provides autism services to families in Ohio. One of Megan's primary goals is to broaden the reach of quality, effective behavior analysis services. Because of this, she is willing to travel to other states/countries.
Applied Behavior Analysis
Applied Behavior Analysis is the science of understanding and improving socially significant behavior. Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) work with families of autistic children to objectively define and analyze behavior within the context of the environment to determine what factors influence the behavior. Applied behavior analysis focuses on developing the principles of learning and acquiring behavior. Many fields use behavior analytic principles: schools, nursing homes, hospitals, businesses, and developmental disabilities.
Verbal Behavior
Verbal behavior is one of the tools in the behavior analysis tool box. Verbal behavior refers to analyzing verbal behavior in the same way that other behaviors are analyzed. Verbal behavior serves a function and it is important to understand this when teaching a child how to communicate. Some children can label items but cannot request items and vice versa. Analyzing verbal behavior and working off the child's motivation is the most effective way to develop language and communication.
ABA and Autism Over 30 years of research support the use of behavioral techniques to teach autistic children.
Assessment Each child is assessed using the ABLLS-R, VB-MAPP, Parental Interview, Functional Assessments, and additional assessments when applicable
Individualized
Services The BCBA develops goals and an individualized plan for each child. The BCBA works with the parents to determine the most important skills to develop for their child.
Parent Training All parents receive hands on training from the BCBA regarding their child's services. Parents will learn how to decrease inappropriate behavior and develop appropriate behavior.
Support and Advocacy
The BCBA collaborates and provides training to the team of people interacting with the child. The BCBA attends IEP meetings and serves as an advocate for the child's behavioral goals and needs.
